Monarch Mountain is located approximately 155 miles from Denver, in Chaffee County, and about 19 miles west of the town of Salida. This smaller mountain was established in 1939 and and receives an impressive 350” of natural snowfall annually.
Monarch is all about the skiing experience and less about commercialization of the mountain. According to their website, won’t find elaborate real estate developments, timeshare sales people and shopping villages, but you will find friendly employees wanting to share this awesome mountain with you.
With over 800 skiable acres, 63 marked trails accessible from 8 lifts, a friendly staff and lift tickets that are still reasonably priced, Monarch is a great destination for your next low-key visit to South Central Colorado.
